My daughter is a 13yr old twin,born at 28 wks not expected to live! Reg blind with Cortical Visual Impairment she attends ST Vincents school for BlindLiverpool. For 8yrs picked up at 7.20am then home for 5pm but sometimes after 6.30pm For the past 5yrs,at my daughters requests,we have been applying to the authorities to fund a residential place.There are many excuses why they can't/WON'T fund it.first,they didn't want her to have a social life in liverpool!they want to employ a specialist carer at a massive expense,when at her school,there is a fully functional TEAM of specialist carers who have known her for 8yrs.It is important to be with peers & people who understand her needs,to enable a future independant life. I started to raise funds,earlier this year,I paid for one night a week @£90pnight it cost £2000for Jan-July. The authorities have recently informed school(not us!!)that AGAIN they WILL NOT fund the placement she so thoroughly enjoys! LOOKS LIKELY I'LL BE FUNDING the next 3-5yrs!
