Sean is a 16 year old boy who was involved in a terrible mountain biking accident in July, leaving him paralysed from the chest downwards. He is currently undergoing a lengthy rehabilitation program in Stoke Mandeville, Buckinghamshire, and this will be his home for several months. Unlike 2/3 of people with severe spinal injuries, Seans accident was just that. An accident! There is no one to blame so no insurance claim possible. It is too early in the rehabilitation process to know just what Sean will need in the way of specialist equipment and care but the list will almost certainly include wheelchairs (probably 2 or 3), lifting equipment, house alterations (ramps, widened doorways, bathroom facilities etc), , transport, IT equipment and potentially a carer. Keen to assist in a positive way, a group of Sean’s closest friends parents have got together in order to raise money in order to assist in the funding of some of the specialist equipment required.
